Summary

Mistplay is a service which pays you for playing games. At the time of writing it’s only available for Android devices.

You longer you play, the more Units you earn which can be exchanged for gift vouchers or prepaid virtual Visa cards.

I have found that you don’t make a lot of money but some of the games are fun and earning Units can be a nice side effect of playing. I can confirm that Mistplay does pay out as I’ve obtained several Amazon vouchers from them.

How does it work?

Mistplay is a game service which rewards players for downloading and playing games. Similar to many other services Mistplay rewards you using a token which known as “units” which can be exchanged for rewards such as gift cards and PayPal transfers. However the model also rewards you with experience points which are:

  • Game Experience (GXP)
  • Player Experience (PXP)

The longer you play each game the more GXP you accrue. When you have obtained enough GXP you will level up in the game which rewarda you with PXP and Units. As with GXP, upon collecting enough PXP you will level up which rewards you with Units. Each level-up also increases the number of GXP you earn per minute. Each game varies in the number of Units and PXP it gives you but this is clearly marked next to the game listing. It’s also worth noting that games in the “Your Discover Weekly” list only offer PXP each time you level up in the game. This will eventually gain you Units when you earn enough PXP to increase your player level but this will take longer.

Mistplay offers games in a variety of genres including, at the time of writing:

  • Simulation (e.g. Idle Miner Tycoon, Dragon City)
  • War games (e.g. War Machines, Vikings war of clans)
  • Board games (e.g. Scrabble, Yahtzee, Board Kings)
  • Role Playing (e.g. Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, Marvel Strike Force, Marvel Future Fight)

The app now also supports daily play streaks, contests, a dedicated tab for game badges (achievements) and a “bonus” page. Each of these features are described below:

Daily Streaks

The daily streak tab rewards you for playing games for at least five minutes each day. The rewards increase the longer you maintain your streak but crash back to zero if you miss a day.

At the time of writing I think the maximum reward is capped at 35 points as I have played for over 70 consecutive days and the last increase I received was at 28 days.

Contests

Contests give you the chance to earn bonus units and gift cards. To enter each contest you need to fulfil certain criteria such as reaching a certain level in a game or accruing more followers.

Opinion

I found Mistplay interesting because of its more sophisticated reward model. If you’re using the service solely to make money I’m not sure it’s necessarily a good use of time unless you find a title which pays a very high number of Units. For example, at the time of writing Star Ocean: Anamnesis pays the maximum number of Units whereas Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery pays only a quarter as many Units.Personally I’ve only made a very small amount of money from Mistplay but it did introduce me to Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera which I played for quite a while and thoroughly enjoyed. The fact I was gradually earning Units was a nice side effect of playing the game.
