How does it work?

Update: I’ve found that the app hasn’t paid out automatically on a few occasions since writing this review. However, their support team have been helpful and have sorted out any issues. It can take a while though.

Update 2: StormX now uses dollar values for tasks rather than “bolts”.

StormX is another service which allows you to earn “Bolts” by completing surveys, playing games and shopping.

This is very similar to many other services we’ve reviewed like Swagbucks or Treasure Trooper. The twist is bolts can be exchanged for Cryptocurrencies. At the time of writing the available cryptocurrencies are:

  • Storm X (their own currency)
  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • Dai
  • Litecoin

How does it work?

Slidejoy is an app for Android which shows you adverts on your lock screen and rewards you with “carats”. Carats can be exchanged for cash and gift cards.

Earning carats solely through the adverts on your lock screen is a slow process. It’s much faster to take part in surveys and tasks offered by Slidejoy partners (e.g. Fyber).

Earn Carats faster by taking part in offers

The app also allows you to scratch a number of virtual scratch cards each day with the possibility of winning Carats. So far it seems that you always win at least one carat per scratch card but I’m yet to win anything more substantial.

The app seems to behave well in terms of energy usage (2% of my battery over the two and a half days) but is heavier on data (138 MB over one month when I was using the app more heavily but only about 30 MB a month recently).

Over the last few months I’ve made 1800 carats which is equivalent to somewhere in the region of just over a dollar. Unfortunately you can only claim when you reach a certain amount. For example, a £4 Amazon gift card is currently 5007 carats.

Slidejoy appears legitimate but unless you take part in taking surveys or playing games the accrual of carats is very slow. That said, I’ll probably keep it installed as it can be used completely passively. It does make unlocking my phone slightly harder though so that might be a deal breaker for some.

Google Opinion Rewards Mini Review

Google Opinion Rewards is an Android app which periodically asks you to complete very short surveys. So far most of the surveys I’ve been asked to take part in have been a single easy to answer question.

Although each survey is worth very little (usually around 6p) it adds up fairly quickly and involves almost no work.

So far I’ve been using the app for three months and have answered 18 very short surveys, making £1.61.

The upside is you make this almost without noticing that you’re doing anything. The downsides are that each survey is few and far between and earnings can only be spent in the Google Play store. It’s also worth noting that credits expire 1 year after earning them and can not be used for partial payment.

Personally because of the extremely low effort I think I’ll continue using the app but won’t expect to be rich any time soon.

Treasure Trooper

Summary

Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

Treasure Trooper is a money making site in a similar vein to Swagbucks but with a stronger emphasis on colourful design, games and social elements. Although I’m not sure that Treasure Trooper is the fastest or best way of making extra money it does have a charm which is largely missing from the other sites I’ve tried so I think it’s worth giving it a shot to see if it works for you.

It’s also worth pointing out that if you sign up via my referral link you’ll receive a $5 starting bonus rather than the $1 you receive if you sign up normally. Treasure Trooper also have a blogger program; so if you have a blog and you’d like to discuss the site you can sign up here.

YouGov

Summary

Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

YouGov is a public opinion gathering platform where people can give and discuss their opinions on the issues of the day. Surveys are offered periodically which can be completed to earn money or entries into prize draws.

YouGov pays out £50 once you have collected 5000 points. Each survey is generally worth 50 points so you have to complete around 100 surveys, with each survey taking roughly 10-15 minutes to complete.

The YouGov app is available on Android and iOS, which can be helpful as it notifies you whenever a new survey is released.

Cash Alarm

Summary

Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

If you’ve used App Flame or Fitplay then all you need to know is it’s basically the same app with different branding. Even the 5555 token signup bonus is the same. If you haven’t used either of these apps, please read on :-).

Cash Alarm is one of many apps available on Android which reward you with tokens for playing games. These tokens can then be exchanged for PayPal payments, Amazon vouchers and a number of other rewards.

The games available tend to change fairly often but you will still be able to earn tokens for playing previously offered games provided you have already downloaded and linked the game to your Cash Alarm account.

As with App Flame and Fitplay you earn a signup reward of 5555 tokens when you sign up, although it may take a little until you’ve accrued enough to cashout as the minimum cashout amount recently changed to £1 (12669 tokens).

Cash Alarm is great if you get lucky and find something you love playing, but if the games you find are not to your taste then I think it’s probably not worthwhile continuing as the payout is so low.

Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

I love this app; it’s fun and can be quite lucrative!

Fitplay

Summary

Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

Update: The minimum payout amount has risen from 50p to £1 since this article was written.

If you’ve read my review of App Flame then this review will seem extremely familiar. That’s because it’s essentially the same app but with different branding.

Fitplay is one of many apps available on Android which reward you with tokens for playing games. These tokens can then be exchanged for PayPal payments, Amazon vouchers and a number of other rewards.

The games available tend to change fairly often but you will still be able to earn tokens for playing previously offered games provided you have already downloaded and linked the game to your Fitplay account.

As with App Flame you earn a signup reward of 5555 tokens when you sign up which means that you generally only need to play for a fairly short time to earn a 50p payout (available at 6399 tokens).

Fitplay is great if you get lucky and find something you love playing, but if the games you find are not to your taste then I think it’s probably not worthwhile continuing as the payout is so low.

Lucky Rose

Summary

Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

Lucky Rose is an Android app whose main attraction is that it allows you to win real money by playing free scratch cards and other mini games.

Personally, I didn’t find the games available particularly engaging.

More importantly, I’ve read many reviews which claim that if you reach an amount valid for payout the app prevents you from withdrawing so I’d recommend probably giving this app a miss.
