MSR is an app which allows you to earn money through answering surveys. You can also share your app and browser usage if you wish to.
MSR is currently only available on Android and Apple devices.
One of the unique selling points of MSR is that any personal information you give to the app is encrypted. The data is used to match you to relevant surveys but you need to explicitly give permission for the data to be shared with the survey provider.
One other thing I like about the app is that, although payouts are in a MSR currency it always tells you how much you’ve earned at the end of each survey in your local currency.
So far each survey I’ve done has been very short and generally pretty interesting and the payout seems very fair.
Payout is available to a variety of gift cards including Amazon and, at least for Amazon (the only payout method I’ve used) the payout is immediate.
The only downside for me is that the frequency of surveys isn’t particularly high.
All in all I’m very impressed with MSR and would recommend it.
Update: I’ve found that the app hasn’t paid out automatically on a few occasions since writing this review. However, their support team have been helpful and have sorted out any issues. It can take a while though.
Update 2: StormX now uses dollar values for tasks rather than “bolts”.
StormX is another service which allows you to earn “Bolts” by completing surveys, playing games and shopping.
This is very similar to many other services we’ve reviewed like Swagbucks or Treasure Trooper. The twist is bolts can be exchanged for Cryptocurrencies. At the time of writing the available cryptocurrencies are:
Sweatcoin recently updated their app to add a 2 x boosts feature which unsuprisingly awards you with double the points over a 20 minute period you choose. To enable it you need to open the app and select 2x BOOST when you think it’ll be of the most benefit to you. Probably in these times of lockdown that’ll be when you go for your daily exercise :-).
A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the Slidejoy app. It was bad timing for me to get involved it turns out as Slidejoy recently announced that they will be closing all non-US operations on the 1st May 2020.
For those affected any outstanding carats must be redeemed by the 30th April. Additional details about redemptions are available here.
Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.

Pi, the digital currency can not currently be traded as it’s still being developed but it costs nothing to get involved and is extremely simple to manage. Pi mining is currently easier as a bonus is given to “Pioneers” (early adopters).
Sign-up is currently only available via referral – if you’re interested my referral link is here.
Sweatcoin is an iPhone and Android app which pays you in tokens to walk. These tokens can be exchanged for prizes which vary over time.
See my review for a more detailed description of the software.
Previously Sweatcoin only counted outdoor steps as their algorithm relied on using GPS for step verification. However, this is no longer the case as within the last month they have started accepting indoor steps.
Their official FAQ page is available here for some additional details.
To acklowledge the decrease in activity for most people due to the current Covid-19 pandemic the Sweatcoin team have decreased the number of steps required to obtain bonus coins through watching ads.
Slidejoy is an app for Android which shows you adverts on your lock screen and rewards you with “carats”. Carats can be exchanged for cash and gift cards.
Earning carats solely through the adverts on your lock screen is a slow process. It’s much faster to take part in surveys and tasks offered by Slidejoy partners (e.g. Fyber).
The app also allows you to scratch a number of virtual scratch cards each day with the possibility of winning Carats. So far it seems that you always win at least one carat per scratch card but I’m yet to win anything more substantial.
The app seems to behave well in terms of energy usage (2% of my battery over the two and a half days) but is heavier on data (138 MB over one month when I was using the app more heavily but only about 30 MB a month recently).
Over the last few months I’ve made 1800 carats which is equivalent to somewhere in the region of just over a dollar. Unfortunately you can only claim when you reach a certain amount. For example, a £4 Amazon gift card is currently 5007 carats.
Slidejoy appears legitimate but unless you take part in taking surveys or playing games the accrual of carats is very slow. That said, I’ll probably keep it installed as it can be used completely passively. It does make unlocking my phone slightly harder though so that might be a deal breaker for some.
Note: Links may award me referral rewards such as in-app points or money.
HuYu is a service similar to Receipt Hog which rewards you with points for uploading receipts, completing short surveys, referring friends and (optionally) sharing browser history.
Points can be redeemed for a huge variety of gift vouchers, ensuring that you’ll almost certainly find something useful or fun to redeem.
